Tanking Treatment

The Oldroyd Xv (also know as Cavity Drainage Membrane - CDM) system provides an exceptionally fast and convenient method of waterproofing walls, floors, and ceilings on new build and refurbishment projects. It is especially useful for waterproofing basements and underground structures, however, it can also be used to waterproof walls and floors above ground level.

The design of the system is such that an air gap is created between the highly water resistant membrane and the substrate. This gap enables the substrate to 'breathe' and equalises water vapour pressure. The membrane is attached to walls and ceilings by means of sealed fixing plugs. While on floors there is normally no need for any form of fixing.

Oldroyd Xv can be covered with a batten and plasterboard finish for a dry wall lining. On floors it is overlaid with a floating timber board floor.

If it is possible that free water will enter the cavity behind the membrane then a drainage facility, possibly incorporating a sump and a pump, will need to be built in. Installation of the Aquadrain perimeter drainage system should also be considered under certain circumstances.

A similar product to Oldroyd Xv, called "Oldroyd-P" is available with a special mesh on one side. This allows a plaster finish to be applied directly to the membrane. However, our technical department should be consulted before Oldroyd-P is used below ground. Oldroyd Xv can also be used in the construction of turf roofs.

Where additional protection is required, or very large floor areas are being covered, a version of Oldroyd Xv with a 20 mm-high stud is available as "CDM P-20".

When correctly maintained, Oldroyd Xv systems have a life expectancy of 50 years.
